Irene Pittatore (Turin 1979), lives and works between Turin, Berlin and Thorenc.
She holds a Degree in DAMS (Drama, Art, and Music Studies) conferred by the University of Turin.
As visual artist, performer and journalist, she uses multiple visual, narrative and participatory tools to create works reflecting on marginalisation, discrimination and their symptoms from a feminist and intersectional perspective.
Her long terms projects, dealing with gender-based violence (L’amavo troppo e le ho sparato, Monumenta Italia), diversity and inclusion (You as me / Nei panni degli altri), the housing emergency (Homeless Heroines), body positivity (Floating Portraits) and remote photography (From a Distance) involve universities, museums, festivals, galleries, non-profit organisations, sometimes unfolding in public spaces.

She was selected for artist-in-residence programs such as The Spur / Creative Europe at the Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma de Mallorca (2017), Resò at Capacete in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo – BR (2011), in Berlin thanks to the Movin’ Up Award and Archive Books (2013), in Turin (IT) for Viadellafucina Twinning Residency (2012).
She writes about contemporary art, feminism and gender identity. From 2015 to 2017 she was the Art Contributor for MW – First Gender Neutral Magazine and Playboy Italia. For fifteen years, she has also been carrying out projects of documentation and enhancement of heritage, archives and initiatives of public and private institutions.
She is the co-founder of Impasse, a cultural association which operates for both defending the cultural labor (R-set. Tools for cultural workers) and promoting its public and social dimension.
She is the artistic director, together with Tea Taramino, of PARI – Polo delle Arti Relazionali e Irregolari in Turin, and Vice President of Forme in bilico APS, which fosters the exchange of ideas and practices between the fields of education, art, school, and therapy. She is the contemporary art representative for the Comitato Emergenza Cultura Piemonte.
She collaborates with the galleries Opere Scelte and A Pick Gallery (Turin – IT).
