Irene Pittatore (1979) is an artist and journalist based in Turin (Italy).
She is co-founder of Impasse, a cultural association which operates for both defending the cultural work (R-set. Tools for cultural workers) and promoting its public and social dimension.
Her art practice investigates the complex relationship between art, gender, economics and the public sphere through photography, performance and writing. She leads workshops and art projects with a strong participatory nature for universities, museums, businesses, social services and magazines, considering art as an agent of emancipation, individuation and care.
She writes about contemporary art, feminism and gender identity, in an intersectional perspective. From 2015 to 2017 she was the Art Contributor for MW – First Gender Neutral Magazine and Playboy.
For fifteen years, she has also been carrying out projects of documentation and enhancement of heritage, archives and initiatives of public and private institutions.
In residence for The Spur / Creative Europe at the Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma, for Resò at Capacete (Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo – BR), in Berlin thanks to the Movin’ Up Award and Archive Books, in Turin (IT) for Viadellafucina Twinning Residency, her projects, performances, interventions have been presented / exhibited at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, A Pick Gallery, Artissima, Camera – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia, Lovers Film Festival, Opera Barolo, Polo del ‘900 (Turin – IT), Aspesi (Milan – IT), Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto (Biella – IT), Museo MACRO (Rome – IT), Orizzonti Verticali Festival in the garden of the Galleria Continua in San Gimignano (Siena – IT), ArtVerona (Verona – IT), Museo di Palazzo Grimani (Venice – IT), Arts Santa Mònica (Barcelona – SP), Es Baluard Museum (Palma de Mallorca – SP), Festival OVNI, Festival In&Out with the participation of Villa Arson (Nice – FR), Festival Jeu de l’Oie (MUCEM and Aix-Marseille Universitè – FR), Biennale des Jeunes Créateurs d’Europe et de la Méditerranée, 12 Bienal de la Habana OFF.
